serving ...

There are many opportunities to use your gifts and skills.  Serving is an important thing.

There are two types of service – general service when, as we gather as a whole community, we serve in worship team, hospitality, chair shifting and washing up!  We all have gifts and skills we can make available to the whole Kairos community.

There is also specific service such as worship leading, teaching, children and youth work, MSC leadership that we are called to exercise.  The starting point is always in general service – the kind of thing Jesus was on about when he washed his disciples’ feet and told them that they needed to do the same to each other.

So let’s generally serve and expect that out of such service we will get an idea of what specific service God may want us to function in.

Contact the office or your MSC Leader or Mark Carey if you want to explore this any further.

oasis ...

What and When

A term-time weekly afternoon event for the over-50s.  Thursdays at 2.15 pm at Westcliffe Hall (formerly St Mary's Church Hall, 2 Harlow Terrace, off Cold Bath Road, Harrogate)  Click here for map.

Cost?

Membership: £5 per year. Admission (including refreshments) 50 pence.

Background

Oasis began in October 1981 when it was felt that there was a need for some kind of group for the older members of St Mary's Church and Parish. As we became established, we attracted people from beyond the parish boundary and now there are no limits as to who is welcome to join Oasis!

Our aim is for over 50s to share a weekly time of fellowship together and we exist and work for the enjoyment, entertainment and spiritual strengthening of all who wish to come along.

What we do

Be relaxed - be refreshed - be renewed

Lively people living life to the full!

We meet at 2.15 pm every Thursday afternoon (except during the main holiday periods), in Westcliffe Hall.

The programme is aimed at being as varied and stimulating as possible. Each meeting begins with 'a hymn, a thought and a prayer' (5 minutes), followed by a speaker who may show slides or have other visual aids. Then comes a welcome cup of tea and time to chat.

Once a month there is a service of Holy Communion at 3.45 pm after the meeting, to which all are welcome.

A very happy atmosphere is apparent at meetings and we trust that newcomers will soon feel 'at home' at Oasis. For those with no church connections, we hope we may be a stepping stone into a closer involvement with our church family.

The programme for each week can be found on this website's calendar - by clicking on a particular Oasis Thursday entry you'll see the full details for that week.
